How to Throw a giant clay pottery novelty goblet

Apr 22, 2010 04:45 AM

IngletonPottery demonstrates how to create a giant clay pottery novelty goblet in less than eight minutes in this video. The goblet can be used as a decorative piece or it can be used to drink from. The choices are endless for this giant piece of art. The giant goblet begins as a big blob of clay. A portion of the clay is wet and the spinning table begins. While the clay is wet it is placed on the spinning table and then the molding process begins. To mold the clay requires concentration and patience. Two fingers are placed in the center of the clay while it is spinning to prompt the clay to grow. Once it begins to grow vertically, it is kept on the table with two hands molding it while it grows. Once the desired height is reached, one hand is placed inside to mold the bottom and the insides of the figure. Once it is shaped it is removed from the spinning table and another blob of clay is placed on the spinning table. This will be the stem of the goblet. Once the stem of the goblet is formed, it is removed and the first piece is placed back on the table, but this time upside down and kept in place with three small rolled clay balls. The stem is molded to the bottom of the first piece and wet slightly to keep together. Once molded properly, the two pieces should be merged into one. The giant piece can then finally be removed and admired.
